Consigning at DiaperExchange.com

Are you looking for a hassle-free alternative to auctions or trading post exchanges for your new and gently used cloth products? Now you can consign your diapers at Diaper Exchange for cash!

Here are just a few advantages of consigning:

  • Our 30% commission is the lowest we have found, and is 12% lower than industry minimums. Since you set your own price, you can mark up to cover our commission!
  • You only have to make one trip to the post office, rather than making a trip each time an item sells. We also assume the responsibility for shipping and tracking sold items and providing customer service to your buyers!
  • No time wasted consuming taking digital pictures and setting up and monitoring auctions or trading post emails!

Consignment Guidelines:

What We Consign

We accept cloth diapering products in new or excellent gently used condition. A little pilling, some color fade, subtle signs of wear are fine. However, nobody wants smelly, stained, old and ugly stuff. If you wouldn't put it on your baby and show it off to your friends, then we probably can't re-sell it. Unfortunately, due to sensitivities to cigarette smoke in many families, we cannot take products from smoking households.

We do not accept items that will sell or be listed at less than $3.00. This includes prefolds, wipes, doublers, etc. This also includes diaper covers that are mass produced and readily available at discount stores (i.e. Dappi, Babies R' Us brand, Gerber etc). Unfortunately these type of items do not sell well online.

We also do not accept holiday (Christmas, Halloween, Valentines, etc) themed diapers. These tend to go unsold. However "winter" or "spring" type themes are acceptable.

If you send items that we cannont consign for any reason, you may request that the items be returned to you at your shipping cost or we can list on our "freebies" page.

Consigning Process

1. Email Diaper Exchange to see if consignor slots are open. You will get an automated response which will quickly let you know whether we are accepting new consignments.

2. If slots are available, you will find information in the automated email response about how to apply as a consignor.

3. Once you are accepted as a consignor, you will be given our shipping address. You will then package your consignments to send. They should be recently laundered and any "sets" (matching diapers and covers, or All in Ones with inserts) should be attached together, either by safety pin, straight pin, ribbon, etc. You may either enclose a suggested retail price sheet (we reserve the right to change prices, although you will be contacted prior to any price change), OR allow us to price your consignment at a rate that we think it will sell at.

4. Very Important! Print and send with your consignment items the intake form, which will serve as your contract. Intake form must be COMPLETE, and SIGNED or else we will not be able to list your items.

5. Mail your package to Diaper Exchange. We strongly suggest that you purchase insurance and delivery confirmation for your items. We are absolutely NOT responsible for items lost in the mailing process.

Once we have successfully recieved your consignment items and completed intake form, we will take pictures, upload your items, and handle the sales.

Getting Paid

You have several choices for payments. You can choose to be paid via PayPal (any fees you incur are your responsibility) when your sales reach a minimum of $10.00 (or any minimum above $10.00 if you choose) or you may choose check payment by mail when your sales reach $25.00. You will receive with your payment an explanation of which items sold, the commissions taken, and your total per item.

We accept credit cards, PayPal, and money orders from our customers. If a customer chooses to pay for one of your consigned items via money order, you will not be paid until we have recieved the customer's payment. We hold orders for a maximum of 10 days before "reshelving".

Commission and Charges Structure

Diaper Exchange has the lowest commission we have found anywhere on the net, even though we offer more service for our consignors than any other. We take a 30% commission on the selling price (most others charge 40 - 60% and YOU have to do the shipping!). We also incur (at no additional cost to you) the fees involved with accepting credit cards and PayPal.

Consignment Contracts

The standard consignment contract is 180 days (6 months). At the 120 day (4 months) mark, we will discount any of your items that have not sold in order to try to move them. If, at the end of 180 days, your items are unsold you will have the following options:

1. You may request that your items be mailed back to you within 15 days of receiving contract expiration notice. You MUST prepay for the shipping charges to return your items to you. You may request an amount and prepay via Paypal.

2. You may request that we eBay your remaining items in a lot. We will set up a 7 day auction that includes all of your remaining items. Commission will be the standard 30%. In addition, you will also incur the fees associated with the auction (i.e. listing fee and final value fee).

3. You may leave them with us and they will be added to our "freebies" page.

If for any reason you decide to end your consignment early, you will be required to prepay return shipping costs plus 15% of current retail listings for your unsold items.
